I am building handmade bicycles that are pure art, craft and, performance. - Simon Courtney

Overview

In my spare time I make bicycles by hand using the highest quality modern steel and brazing them together with either silver and lugs, or brass filleting.

My background in design and as an artist drives me to always try something new, something that is a challenge, something I have to figure out myself, and always something beautiful.

I am self taught in welding and metal work which has given me the opportunity to write my own rules, I have let the craft drive my direction. Everything beautiful I create is based on a well constructed and envisioned plan. Each bicycle is made to a customised set of angles and lengths, using specifically chosen steel tubes so it will perform outstandingly when ridden with intent.

For some images etc of some builds view my flickr page: www.flickr.com/dustkustoms or check www.steadyrollin.co.nz for occasainal progress reports.

I need

  • My main obstacles to creating even better bicycles in higher volume are:
  • Gaining more knowledge faster - no one local is doing what I am
  • I require more professional-level equipment - lathes and pro Jig and alignment setup
  • More cooperation or funds towards purchase of components from the suppliers - a large obstacle
